Below you will find a selection of the styles of dance you may find us dancing at Cranbrook Community Dance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Swing Dances<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Balboa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically danced in 4\/4 time, Balboa evolved when dance halls grew too crowded to do the big movements of other swing dances. Typically danced with small but quick steps, Balboa is often danced in something of a hug.<br>Some songs we like for Balboa include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Joshua Fit De Battle of Jericho<\/em> by Sidney Bechet<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Cheek To Cheek<\/em> by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Bright<\/em> by Echosmith<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Charleston<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically danced in 4\/4 time, Charleston is somewhat unique in that it can be danced as a partner dance or solo. Danced mostly in place with legs and arms swinging, Charleston is characterized by its kicks.<br>Some songs we like for Charleston include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> <em>It Don&#8217;t Mean a Thing (If It Ain&#8217;t Got That Swing<\/em> by Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>The Bare Necessities<\/em> by Bill Murray and Kermit Ruffins<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>It Is What It Is<\/em> by Jenna Raine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Collegiate Shag<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically danced in 4\/4 time, Collegiate Shag is an upbeat and bouncy dance. It evolved as a part of the swing dance family and is primarily danced to faster swing music.<br>Some songs we like for Collegiate Shag include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Sing, Sing, Sing<\/em> by Benny Goodman<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>I Wan&#8217;na Be Like You<\/em> by Christopher Walken<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Lollipop <\/em>by MIKA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lindy Hop<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically danced in 4\/4 time, Lindy Hop is a fun and versatile dance. With roots in the improvisational and exciting dancing done by Black youth in Harlem, modern Lindy Hop is somewhat synonymous with &#8220;swing dancing&#8221;.<br>Sine songs we like for Lindy Hop include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Sermonette<\/em> by Earl Grant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Joy to the World<\/em> by Three Dog Night<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Talk It Up<\/em> by Sammy Rae and the Friends<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>West Coast Swing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically danced in 4\/4 time, West Coast Swing has roots in swing dancing but has taken inspiration from other dance styles including salsa and country dance. It is a smooth dance often danced to modern pop music.<br>Some songs we like for West Coast Swing include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Black Velvet <\/em>by Alannah Myles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Flowers<\/em> by Miley Cyrus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Five More Minutes<\/em> by the Jonas Brothers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"4522\" height=\"3015\" src=\"https:\/\/dance.evanbenson.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/HEEngagement29.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-198\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Country Dances<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Country Two-Step<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically danced to 4\/4 time, Country Two-Step is an upbeat country dance. Characterized by spins, Country Two-Step starts out as simple as walking and progresses into all sorts of fancy turns.<br>Some songs we like for Country Two-Step include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Dirt On My Boots<\/em> by Jon Pardi<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Wagon Wheel<\/em> by Darius Rucker<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Follow Your Arrow<\/em> by Kacey Musgraves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Line Dancing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically danced to specific songs, Line Dancing is a non-partner dance where a group of people (or a solo dancer) perform a choreographed routine, typically a short and repetitive one, in a series of lines.<br>Some songs we like for Line Dancing include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Footloose<\/em> by Kenny Loggins<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Tain&#8217;t What You Do (It&#8217;s The Way That You Do It)<\/em> by Jimmie Lunceford<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>A Bar Song (Tipsy)<\/em> by Shaboozey<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nightclub Two-Step<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically danced to 4\/4 time, Nightclub Two-Step is a gentle and relaxed country dance. It is danced with a lot of forward motion and<br>Some songs we like for Quickstep include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Billy-A-Dick<\/em> by Bette Midler<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Spiderman Theme <\/em>by Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Crazy in Love<\/em> from &#8216;The Great Gatsby&#8217;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tango<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically danced in 4\/4 time, Tango is danced as a charismatic march. The dance is distinguished by its sharp and defined movements.<br>Some songs we like for Tango include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>La Cumpasita <\/em>by Danny Malando<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Roxanne&#8217;s Tango<\/em> by DJ Maksy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Seven Nation Army <\/em>by The White Stripes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Viennese Waltz<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically danced in 6\/8 time, Viennese Waltz is perhaps the oldest ballroom dance still danced today. It is danced swiftly and elegantly.<br>Some songs we like for Viennese Waltz include: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>The Merry-Go-Round of Life<\/em><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>from &#8216;Howl&#8217;s Moving Castle&#8217;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>The Potter Waltz <\/em>from &#8216;Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire&#8217;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Love On the Brain<\/em> by Rihanna<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Waltz <\/strong><br>Typically danced in 3\/4 time, Waltz is a classic of ballroom dancing. The dance is fairly relaxed and smooth.<br>Some songs we like for Bachata include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Loco<\/em> by Enrique Inglesias and Romeo Santos<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Bailando Bachata<\/em> by Chayanne<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Havana<\/em> by Camila Cabello<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cha Cha<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically danced in 4\/4 time, Cha Cha is a fun and upbeat dance developed in the 1950s.<br>Some songs we like for Cha Cha include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>El Rey Tibur\u00f3n <\/em>by Man\u00e1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Smooth<\/em> by Santana and Rob Thomas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>W.I.T.C.H. <\/em>by Devon Cole<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rumba<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically danced in 4\/4 time, Rumba is a smooth and slow dance with Cuban roots.<br>Some songs we like for Rumba include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Ac\u00e9rcate M\u00e1s <\/em>by Natalie Cole and Nat King Cole<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps<\/em> by Lisa Bassenge and The J-Chestra<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Espresso <\/em>by Sabrina Carpenter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Salsa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically danced in 4\/4 time, Salsa is one of the most popular social dances worldwide. Quick and upbeat, Salsa has many variations around the world including its own version of a \u201ccalled\u201d dance (like square dancing) called Rueda.<br>Song songs we like for Salsa include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Vivir Mi Vida <\/em>by Marc Anthony<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Mas Que Nada<\/em> by Sergio Mendes and Brasil \u201966<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Ay Mi Maria <\/em>by bloque 53<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Samba<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically danced in 2\/4 time, Samba has its roots in Brazil: based on a dance called Maxixe.
