How do I sign up for classes?
To sign up for classes, please email cranbrookcommunitydance@gmail.com or simply drop in to one of the current classes listed below. All are welcome!
Do I need a partner?
In short: no. Throughout the classes, we will be rotating partners so you will have the opportunity to dance with other people even if you do not have a partner yourself.
What do I wear to class?
First and foremost, please come wearing clothes that you are comfortable moving in. Dance is a physical activity and so you want to avoid being restricted by your clothes or shoes.
Shoes – We require clean, non-marking, indoor shoes. If you do not have suede or leather soled dancer shoes, we suggest something with less grippy soles like kedz, toms, or chucks rather than bulky boots. You can even just bring a pair of clean socks to change into. You will likely find that high heels or sandals will negatively impact your ability to dance.
Scent – please come smelling as minimally as possible. We will be dancing in close proximity with one another and so want to avoid smelling like anything: be that body odor or perfume.
What if I cannot commit to a full series?
Check out our drop-in series. These classes are aimed towards dancers that are new to the style for any given class. While new material is likely to be covered, it will not rely on previous classes in the way that a Progressive Series will.
If you are interested in attending our Progressive Series but will not be able to attend each lesson, please let us know and we will work with you to find an accommodation.
What if Cranbrook Community Dance doesn’t offer the dance I want to do?
Let us know! We are happy to take direction and do what we can to provide a space for the dance styles our community members want to dance.
What if Cranbrook Community Dance doesn’t offer dance on a day I am available?
Let us know! We want to ensure that our community members are able to attend as much as possible and we are happy to make changes to our schedule where possible and appropriate.
Are your events kid-friendly?
Cranbrook Community Dance aims our events, both lessons and socials, to an adult audience. This means that the music may be explicit, with adult references, and that all dancers are expected to behave in an adult fashion: participating without need of supervision, listening quietly when instructions are given, and treating one another respectfully. This being said, we welcome dancers under the age of 18 to our events so long as the above is not a concern. Dancers under the age of 18 will require a parent or guardian to sign a liability waiver on their behalf.
