Social Dance – Waltz, Quickstep, Balboa, and Nightclub Two-Step
6:00-9:00 Saturday October 25
Location: St Mary’s Catholic Independent School at 1701 – 5th Street South

We will begin this Social Dance with a brief and simplified Waltz lesson, so please feel free to drop-in even if you have no dance experience, friends and family are welcome.

Following the lesson, we will have social dancing where we will alternate between a few songs appropriate for Waltz, Quickstep, Balboa, and Nightclub Two-Step.

We will be available to answer questions, provide assistance, showcase basic steps, and to dance with: feel free to come and ask.

Ongoing Newcomer Fundamentals Progressive Series – Lindy Hop
6:00-7:00 Fridays starting November 7.
Location: Studio Stage Door’s Dance Studio at 11 11 Ave S, Cranbrook, BC

In this progressive series, each week will be an hour long lesson building upon the previous week to dive deeper into Lindy Hop figures and skills. The idea is to familiarize new dancers to Lindy Hop to build confidence and skill in the dance.

Every four weeks we will start a new four week progressive series. Each new series will involve a slightly different set of figures and will focus on different skills. While this progressive is aimed at new dancers – those for whom Lindy Hop is a totally new activity – we encourage more experienced Lindy Hoppers to come and improve their fundamentals.

While we will be building upon previous weeks throughout each progressive series, dancers are welcome to drop in at any time. Each month we will start a new series.

Newcomer Progressive Series – West Coast Swing
7:00-8:00 Fridays November 7, 14, 21, and 28.
Location: Studio Stage Door’s Dance Studio at 11 11 Ave S, Cranbrook, BC

In this progressive series, each week will be an hour long lesson building upon the previous week to dive deeper into West Coast Swing figures and skills. The idea is to familiarize new dancers to West Coast Swing to build confidence and skill in the dance.

This progressive is aimed at new dancers: those for whom West Coast Swing is a totally new activity. Of course, more experienced dancers are more than welcome to take the progressive as well.

Each class builds upon the previous one so we ask that community members attend for the four week series so that all classmates can grow together. If this is not possible, please reach out to us and we will discuss accommodations.

Newcomer Progressive Series – Tango

This progressive is aimed at dancers familiar with Lindy Hop: those with confidence in figures including: Basics in Open and Closed, the Send Out, the Come Back, the Tuck Turn, the Right Side Pass, and the Left Side Pass. Of course, more experienced dancers are more than welcome to take the progressive as well. If you are not sure about how your skill level meshes with the class level, please reach out and we can provide some personalized guidance.

This progressive is aimed at dancers familiar with ballroom dancing: those with confidence in frame, leading/following basic figures, and the like. Of course, more experienced dancers are more than welcome to take the progressive as well. Christmas Social Dance – Lindy Hop, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz, and more

Following the lesson, we will have social dancing where we will alternate between a variety of songs, focusing on those appropriate for Lindy Hop, Quickstep, and Viennese Waltz. Much of the music will be Christmas themed to help set a festive mood.

We will be available to answer questions, provide assistance, showcase basic steps, and to dance with: feel free to come and ask

Drop-in Series

We look forward to hearing the input of our community members as to what dances they would like to focus on. We intend to run more drop-in lessons where we will focus on a single dance style for a week or two allowing dancers to try out new dance styles. The idea is to build basic familiarity with novel dance styles. The specific style will change from one drop-in series to the next based on the interest of the community members.

These drop-in series will be aimed at new dancers looking to try out new dances or learn new skills in dances they already have some basic skills in.

Newcomer Progressive Series

We look forward to hearing the input of our community members as to what dances they would like to focus on. We intend to run more progressive lessons where we will focus on a single dance style for up to four weeks in a row. The idea is to build skills and promote confidence in a specific dance style. The specific style will change from one progressive series to the next based on the interest of the community members.

These progressive series will be aimed at new dancers looking to build up confidence in a specific dance beyond what the dance sampler offers.

Improver Progressive Series

We look forward to hearing the input of our community members as to what dances they would like to focus on. We intend to run progressive lessons where we will focus on a single dance style for four weeks in a row. The idea is to build skills and promote confidence in a specific dance style. The specific style will change from one progressive series to the next based on the interest of the community members.

These progressive series will be aimed at dancers who are more familiar with the basics of a given dance and are looking to build upon the skills learned in the newcomer series.

Social Dances

We expect to have monthly social dance, generally on the last Saturday in the month from 6:00-9:00pm. At these socials we will play music appropriate for the dance styles taught, welcome community members, and spend the evening dancing. Each social dance will begin with a brief introductory lesson to help new community members get out on the floor right at the start of the night. We encourage community members to bring along friends and family to dance alongside them.

These social dances will be aimed at all dancers. Getting out to practice what you have learned in class is paramount to solidifying skills as well as building friendships in the community.
